I had a really good post stuck in my head earlier today, but I got caught up in doing housework stuff and running errands. Such as finding one of those faucet attachments to put on the bathtub so I can use the sprayer end to help clean the damn thing. What's that saying, " You cant fit a square peg in a round hole". Yep, the damn thing won't fit the faucet. Oh well, back to using a saucepan to splash water all over the tub to get the Comet out. At least it looks better than it did. Note to self: next place get a sprayer attached to the shower head.
The night shift work is going fine, however it's really messing with my daytime routine. I have a hard time falling asleep not to mention I sometimes wake up around 3 a.m. and toss and turn. I begin to sleep the heaviest around 8:30 am these days. Right about the time I normally go to bed after coming home from working all night. I really need to work on making day time plans so I have a reason to get up before eleven. However, I feel like I've been planning my time around winter storms and bitter cold weather. Hard to plan fun activities when you're expecting wind chill factors below zero and 8 inches of snow. Yep, winter has been just one big meanie.
I think I'm getting an ulcer. Really. I seem to have a constant 'pit' feeling in my stomach. At first I thought it was because I'm eating food so late at night, again, due to working nights but now even in my off time, I still feel like there's a 'blah' feeling in my tummy. If I could just have one helluva belch, I feel like I'd have some relief. However, even the plain old carbonated soda water hasn't helped me so much. Maybe I should ask some other night shift peoples. Long term effects from staying up all night? Geeze....
I'm starting to clean out the basement a little bit more often. And putting things back into their designated plastic bin instead of allowing it to live on top of the dryer because I've been too lazy. I'm slowly getting rid of the crap so when I move it will be a less painful process. I can't wait to leave this shack of a home. I've got my eyes on a condo that I found on-line. I haven't walked through it yet, plus it's more expensive than some of the others that I have found. What I do like about it is that it's on a relatively flat surface meaning no creepy or steep hills to climb which will be a bonus when the weather is bad. Plus, the garage has some shelving built in the walls. Woo hoo! Not only can I keep my car protected, I can be more organized as I so desire to be. Keeping my fingers crossed. If it's not for me then I hope to God that there is something better on the way. My main concern is biting off more than I can chew. Not only do I have school loans to pay now, I have a new car payment which means by default higher insurance because it's a better and newer car. Ah, the joys of ownership. I don't want to be pigeonholed into working nights for the next few years because the money is better. It sure does help, especially when you work an extra shift but it sure can suck sometimes. I will certainly grow an ulcer under those conditions. Maybe I should give it a name just so I can get prepared. What about Besty? Or maybe Harold. I think I like Harold better. It seems more fitting in my weird little world. Okay, off to bed. Or so I hope. elizinashe.
January has been one long ass month. And a bitter month at that. I'm just glad it's over and I hope that February will be much kinder. I'm ready for some sunny skies and temperatures above freezing. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Justin Bieber is a jackass. I've never been a fan but then again I survived puberty years ago and I just don't dig that kind of music at my age. Regardless, Bieber is a prime example of too much money and fame way too fast and too young, poor parenting, poor guidance and absolutely no respect for others. Who pees in a mop bucket in a restaurant's kitchen anyway? Oh yeah, someone who is not completely sober. And how many clubs has he tried to enter only to be turned away because he's nineteen? Dude, you're not old enough yet! Get a grip! And why in the hell would anyone willingly lend-slash-rent a high powered, high cost car to a young and very dumb kid? Sadly, money talks. Unfortunately, he won't have much left if he keeps this kind of behavior up. I say put him on an allowance along with a big fat spanking on the ass. He clearly needs it. I'm tired of him showing up in my news feed. Send him back to Canada where he belongs. Is it too late for me to add my name to that petition?
Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Now there's a shock. Didn't see that coming at all. I had no idea that he struggled with drug addiction. And it's sad that he did. He really was a great actor and was wide in his variety of roles. I thought he was fantastic in Capote. Earned an Oscar for that role. Now he's earned the 'death by overdose'. Sad.
As independent as I am and as 'un-girly' as I am, there is a bit of romantic inside. I don't need roses and fancy dinners but I do like small gestures and those little stolen moments. I wish to have someone by my side to put up a Christmas Tree and watch the lights twinkle and wonder with curiosity what's inside that wrapped gift box. I want that New Year's kiss at midnight. I want a Valentine and have a nice dinner with some lovely wine, good conversation and good old fashioned cuddling. Again, I don't need a lot of pomp and circumstance, but just a small piece of that Hallmark Card pie. That's all. Not too much to ask don't ya think? However, my Christmas and my New Year's were spent working, so no romance for me there. I still have hopes for Valentine's but I really don't think I will score that magical date. No worries. I've mailed out my Valentine's already to those who are near and dear so that will do for now.
My brother died unexpectedly twenty-eight years ago this year. Can't believe it's been that long. Sometimes I really, really miss him. Most of the time I just carry on like I have been. I've noticed within the last year or so that some of the pictures that have been taken of me I have his smile. Even my nose seems to be similar. I've never really noticed it before. Don't know if it's always been that way, or if I have subconsciously adopted his mannerisms. They say that your nose and ears really don't stop growing, so maybe some of my facial features are morphing. Maybe I'm just getting older and changing the way I smile and pose. Who knows. Maybe it's just his way of being around me and it shows up when I have my picture taken. Either way, I think it's a good thing.
Okay, so that's about it folks. Just another day in my upside down world. Stay warm and let's all think about a nice, long Spring. I'm ready! Aren't you? elizinashe
I like wine. Sometimes I really like it. I typically have a glass every night with dinner and certainly on a 'girls night'. I think I was just destined to me a wine lover. I don't go for the fancy-schmancy type stuff, and you really don't have to spend a lot of money on a nice bottle, whether you prefer reds or white. In fact, some of the more expensive stuff I found to be not so pleasing not to mention a terrible hangover after two glasses. Regardless, I think the whole wine loving thing has always been around me.
My mom has said that I was a very 'active baby' while she was pregnant with me. I moved around a lot, especially when it came to mealtime. I find that pretty funny. How did I know she was going to eat? She also said there was an evening close to the end of her pregnancy where I just wouldn't settle. She was miserable, fat and very tired. Apparently my parents had people over for dinner or something like that and she finally took one sip of wine so she could relax and go to bed. That one sip settled me down and mom was able to rest. She also told me another episode when I barely a year old and I was having a real fussy night. I had been sick, or so she tells me, and was just crying my head off. Mom had a glass of wine close by and according to her, I grabbed her glass and wouldn't let go, so she let me take a swig. Once I had me a big ol' sip, mom says I had a big smile on my face, stopped crying and calmed down enough to go to sleep peacefully. Guess I should thank my mom for my wine loving habits.
If you wear makeup then you will know what I'm talking about. A lot of the shades of blush, lipstick, eyeshadows, foundations have basic colors but the marketing part is where they subliminally make you buy their product. 'Sassy Pink', 'Just Peachy', 'Flirty Red', 'Come Heather' and so forth. I had discovered that my choices of blush and lipsticks have had a 'wine theme' due to the color scheme looked well on me as opposed to purposely buying them because it made me think of wine. I have 'Wine with Everything', 'Cabernet Cruise', 'Merlot', 'Champagne', and I think I even had a 'Pinot' at one time. Really. And I really don't wear a lot of makeup nor do I wear lipstick often. Hell, I have lipstick that is years old. Thus, the wine themed names still exist in my bathroom. I have no idea what kind of makeup themes are the new trend as of late. Again, I don't wear a whole lot therefore I don't buy new shadows or lipstick every week. However, if I get hard up on something new I can always look for something 'wine like'. It's served me well so far, so why change? I like consistency.
I really didn't start drinking wine on a frequent basis until close to
the end of my bartending career. It was always one of those 'special
occasion' type of things. Holidays, birthdays, celebrations and so
forth. However, during all those years that I rarely drank, I think the
idea of it was always around me unintentionally. Thus, the previous paragraph. Now I really enjoy my wine, especially after a long day or spending time with special friends whether I'm on a vacation or I have friends visiting me. And always for a holiday meal. It would be sin not to have some fermented grapes after slaving in the kitchen all day. Haha...
Speaking of which, guess I should do a little primping. I've got dinner plans and a glass of wine in my near future. Now, which shade of lipstick should I wear? Salut! elizinashe
Ever feel like you just can't 'catch up'? Ever feel like once you've got a good thing started and settled that something comes along and throws off your game? How many times do you say 'aw, just fuck it' and give up? Or do you just ride that wave and keep moving? Too cryptic? How do you handle juggling all of life's curve balls? Again, perhaps I'm being too cryptic. Just a little frustrated and need to vent I suppose.
This past week certainly had its challenges and I somehow arose to the occasion but it sure did disrupt my week. All is well in my world, mind you, but it certainly stressed me out and did not help me in maintaining a routine nor get over my cold that I've been battling for two weeks now. And I feel like of all the little things that could have helped combat these little hiccups did not happen in the given time that I wanted, thus I was stuck in dealing with my present life, waiting and striving for the better. Don't get me wrong, I'm good. Really. Just frustrated that I'm not in the very place that I had imagined myself to be at this time. Just another challenge. Which I'm getting tired of so to speak and I'm ready for that next stepping stone. It's just been hard to locate that magical rock that will lead me to the next phase in my life. Yes, cryptic. Oh well.
So tomorrow is a new day. And the end of my week will be spent with some very dear friends. Too bad I can't fast forward to Friday. The first five days after the weekend is always the hardest. I will survive and shoot for the weekend. It will certainly perk up my mood. Maybe I should schedule some vacation time too. I think some sunny skies are needed for sure! Stay warm my readers while we wait for Spring's sunny disposition. Change always comes and hopefully for the best! Cheers! elizinashe
Yep, it's winter alright. My corner of the world is in the midst of that 'polar vortex' which is a meteorological term for cold as shit. I've spent two days buying that cheap foam stuff to put on my pipes 'just in case' because I know my landlords wouldn't do it in time. They're probably out of town anyway. It was just easier to do it myself. Got the shower and bathroom sink on a slow drip too. Keeping my fingers crossed. The temps are holding steady at 3 degrees right now. It's supposed to drop to zero if not slightly below. Coldest it's been here in like 20 years. It's certainly the lowest temp on record since the 1800s. Dang that's cold. I wonder what people back then did to keep warm. My windows in my 'living room' pretty much look like that picture. Ah, the glories of living in an old house. Can't wait to leave this place.
So I've spent my day prepping a feast in my crock pot, then made a mad dash to the dentist for an emergency fix on a temporary crown that popped off AGAIN! What a pain in the ass. Then it was off to the doctor. Just can't shake this cold I have had plus I knew that it was getting to the point that it could have turned into bronchitis or pneumonia. I'm not having any of that. The real pisser about that trip was the pharmacy next door ran out of the antibiotic that was prescribed, which meant going to the hospital where I work to pick up my meds at that pharmacy. That was right about the time that the temps started dropping. Glad I grabbed my hat and gloves. The only upside to that trip was my medicine cost me a whole eight dollars. Yep. Eight. Thank you Jesus!
Came home, threw some ice melt on my drive since they had predicted some snow and any ice that is left would refreeze. Luckily my drive was already dry but who knows if it's really gonna snow at this point? I want to be able to leave my house tomorrow when that cabin fever sets in. Of course, being that I've been sick, staying in my pjs might not be such a bad idea.
At the end of it all, I'm glad my day is over. My crock pot feast was lovely and I've done nothing but sit my ass on the couch and watch television. Although, that's getting pretty old at this point especially since I don't have cable so I'm pretty limited to the variety. (sigh.). I'm just about tired of the news because all they are talking about is this damn weather. I've seen enough. And being that I work nights, sleeping through the night has become an issue despite that I've been off for a few days. Guess I could clean up some clutter piles. Or not. Haha...in the meantime I will envision warmer places. Stay safe and warm! elizinashe

Every year I send Christmas cards to family and friends. I typically don't send out more than 20 but I still do it the old fashioned way with a handwritten note and stickers all over the envelope. It's something I really enjoy doing. Sometimes I've even written a 'Christmas Letter' like many people have done in the past, telling family and friends about their kids accomplishments and family adventures they have have over the past year. I've done that a couple of times as well, minus my children's bits since I don't have any of my own. Being that I have quite a year, I felt like doing a Christmas letter this year. I started it at work late one night with most of my creative juices flowing in the wee hours of the morning. However, once I got it completed and reviewed, it became more of an epic play-by-play of the entire year which seemed just a bit too much. Too much is too much. Being that I haven't done a letter in a very long time, it just seemed a bit too ridiculous so I just went with the plain old card with stickers. It seemed a bit more time worthy anyway since I had gotten behind. Maybe I'll publish it here one day for others to read when they're really, really bored.
Looking back at my blog history, I have posted at least once every month this past year, sometimes twice and maybe a third in there somewhere, I really can't remember. I'm surprised that I was able to do that while working and going to nursing school the whole time. I know for a fact that it was a great creative relief for me to do so even though I felt like I didn't have much time to write as often as I had wanted to but it's a small achievement regardless I think. Who cares about the vacuum when you can blog?
I really don't have big plans for Christmas this year. I had already volunteered to work the holiday since I was off for Thanksgiving and we are required to work at least one of those holidays. I feel like I over did it on Thanksgiving anyway. Not food wise, just a bunch of people wise. I'm just not in the mood for another big meal with too many people. Again, look at previous post about 'sensitive people'. Haha...I have plans to meet some friends for some sushi tonight which will be just fine. I may be a bit bored and restless today, but I just don't want to be around a big family style gathering. The past two weeks, hell, this past month has been one big whirlwind and this chic is tired! I've made soup, washed the dishes, finished laundry, ran a quick errand and have already taken a nap. Ahh.....not a bad way to spend a Christmas Eve, eh?
In the meantime, Merry Christmas to you and may your New Year be blessed with many adventures and good cheer! Who knows what 2014 will bring? elizinashe
How sensitive are you? I'm not talking about having your feelings easily hurt where you run and cry if someone gives you a dirty look, but the kind of sensitivity to where you feel mentally overloaded in certain situations. I am one of the latter.
I've always been easily 'rattled' when I feel like I have too much to do in a day like having to run errands all day and meet 3 or 4 commitments within a certain time frame. I hate being late for anything so I try and plan ahead but sometimes when I get to that 3rd commitment and still have more errands to tackle I have to stop and take a break. Sometimes I put that last commitment off until another time or another day. It's not an issue of being lazy but just an issue of being overwhelmed. And that's okay. I've survived this long living that way and I know myself fairly well so I don't think I will endure any long term damage. Ha-ha....Nursing school certainly put that sensitivity overload to the test. Ugh. So glad that's over.
I accepted a job back in October in a nursing position. Woo Hoo!! I was offered a night position within the unit that I have worked on for the last 8 years now which has been a nice transition. I'm thankful to have a nursing job within my work family and have remained among my mentors, cheerleaders and work friends. I know who I can go to for help and not worry if I'm being 'fed to the wolves' as some people can be when they have a newbie on the floor. Working nights has been a slight challenge but I have done it before many, many moons ago and I have yet to spontaneously burst into flames so I think I can survive okay. Plus, the night shift pay is pretty good and hard to turn down right now especially since I have had to replace my car sooner than later and my student loan payments begin in January. Sigh....ah, the joys of owing money.
I have a good friend coming in this weekend for a visit. I'm looking forward to our time together. We have much catching up to do, mostly on my visitor's side of the fence I guess since there have been some new developments in his life. Is that too cryptic? It's going to be a good time regardless. There will be much eating and drinking across town which is just our style. Bon Appetite and Salut!
And just in case you're wondering, here's the link where you can take a self-test to see how 'sensitive' you may or may not be. Just for giggles. Cheers! elizinashe
